The essential vinyl stabilisers for any ’90s raver

A limited edition set of record weights shaped like Mitsubishi ecstasy pills have landed on shelves, courtesy of H.A.N.D.HiFi.

Created by the custom hi-fi gear company, the record weights clock in at 523 grams promising to apply “firm pressure on the record to the platter lessening unwanted vibration coming off the record.”

The pressure applied results in a “smoother and richer tonal balance with vast improvement in soundstage clarity”, H.A.N.D.HiFi explained on Instagram.

According to the hi-fi company, the weights also offer “instrumental definition, increased dynamic range, improved bass response and substantial reduction in vinyl noise floor.”

H.A.N.D.HiFi are encouraging users to Make Dancefloor Magic Again (MDMA) with their latest design, which is released by Berlin-based record shop and label Sound Metaphors.

The vinyl stabilisers come in at €95, though currently sold out on Sound Metaphors‘ website. You can sign up to a waiting list to be in with a chance of bagging the next drop.

In 2017, Norwich-based sculptor Daniel David launched a collection of ecstasy pill-shaped stone sculptures, fetching up to £1,000 a pop. The range featured a giant Mitsubishi pill, along with Apple, Playboy, and Rolex branding on others.

A year later in 2018, UK rave company Softcore unveiled a range of pill-inspired furniture, including foot stalls and tables. The collection included the classic Mitsubishi, as well as a smiley, dove, and love heart presses, priced at £400 each.

At the time, Softcore explained: “Our pills are suitable for both indoor and outdoor use. Whether it’s to put your feet up after a hard weekend or to relax by your sun lounger, our innovative furnishings look boss in every environment.”
