The event series takes place next month from November 21 – 24
The Capstone Theatre in Liverpool is set to host a series of events next month celebrating 60 years of the iconic Moog synthesiser.
The series kicks off on November 21 at the Liverpool venue, spanning four days before it concludes on November 24 with a tribute to pioneering German group Kraftwerk.
‘The Moog at 60: A Celebration’ features a show from Will Gregory Moog Ensemble, a sound installation from the publishers of 1984 video game Deus Ex Machina, an event exploring “synthesis in modern media”, and more.
The event series will also include shows from Lydia Kavina, The Twelve Hour Foundation, Dave Bessell, Polypores, as well as an afterparty, concluding with a show marking 50 years of Kraftwerk’s ‘Autobahn’ and Far Beyond.
“This series of concerts at The Capstone Theatre, celebrates the 60th anniversary of the invention of the Moog synthesiser by Robert Moog in 1964,” reads the event series’ description.
“The Moog, a name synonymous with electronic music, was the first ever commercial synthesiser. Through its revolutionary concept of analogue modular synthesis, the instrument heralded a succession of technological developments in music throughout the 60s and 70s.”
The Moog became a “key feature” in many groundbreaking, future-thinking productions from experimental and electronic artists over the years, following a period “in the ‘80s and ‘90s dominated by digital synthesis”.
“More recently analogue modular synthesisers have returned to the centre stage in electronic music, with artists enthralled by the instruments’ timbral richness and their tactile sensitivity and playability,” reads event description.
